Butter Naan Recipe

Servings - 2 to 3

For the dough:

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon dry yeast

  • 1 tablespoon oil (1/2 teaspoon extra)

  • 1 teaspoon garlic (grated)

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup plain flour (405)

  • ½ cup whole wheat flour (Atta)

For the garlic butter:

  • 50g melted butter

  • 1 tablespoon garlic (grated)

  • 1-2 tablespoons coriander, finely chopped

Method:

  1. Add warm water, sugar, and yeast in a big mixing bowl.

  2. Mix well and let it rest for 15 minutes.

  3. After 15 minutes, add 1 tablespoon oil, 1 teaspoon grated garlic, salt, and mix them thoroughly.

  4. Next, add plain flour and wheat flour, mixing everything well until it forms a smooth and soft dough.

  5. Grease the dough with ½ teaspoon extra oil, cover it, and let it rest for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

  6. Meanwhile, prepare the garlic butter by mixing melted butter, 1 tablespoon grated garlic, and chopped coriander.

  7. After an hour, knead the dough slightly.

  8. Divide the dough into equal parts.

  9. Gently roll each part into an oval shape using a rolling pin, ensuring it's neither too thin nor too thick.

  10. Heat a non-stick pan on high, then reduce to medium-high heat.

  11. Place the rolled naan onto the hot, non-stick pan.

  12. Let it cook for a couple of minutes until you notice bubbles forming on top.

  13. Flip it and cook the other side of the naan.

  14. The bread should have some darker brown spots when it's cooked.

  15. Immediately brush the cooked naan with the prepared garlic butter on the serving plate.

  16. Serve the warm naan with any Indian curries.
