Kadale Bele Chutney | Easy Chana Dal Peanut Chutney Recipe

Learn how to make Kadale Bele Chutney (Chana Dal Peanut Chutney), a quick and flavorful South Indian chutney that goes perfectly with idli, dosa, or rice. 

This easy chutney recipe uses simple ingredients and is ready in minutes. 

Perfect for beginners and anyone who loves healthy and tasty Indian sides!  



Ingredients:  



  • 2 teaspoons oil 

  • 1/2 cup chana dal (Bengal gram) 

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 

  • 1/2 cup peanuts 

  • 5-6 green chillies 

  • 5-6 garlic cloves 

  • 2 sprigs of curry leaves 

  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut (fresh or frozen) 

  • A handful of coriander leaves 

  • 1/2 teaspoon tamarind paste 

  • Salt to taste 

  • Water as required

 


For Tempering:  



  • 2 teaspoons oil 

  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds 

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds 

  • 1 dry red chilli 

  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing) 

  • A few curry leaves  



Method:  



  1. Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a pan. Add 1/2 cup chana dal and roast until golden brown. 

  2. Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and roast for a minute. 

  3. Add 1/2 cup peanuts and roast until done. 

  4. Next, add green chillies, garlic, and curry leaves. Sauté well. 

  5. Switch off the flame and add shredded coconut and coriander leaves. 

  6. Mix well and let everything cool. 

  7. Transfer the roasted and cooled ingredients to a blender.  

  8. Add tamarind paste, salt, and water as required. 

  9. Blend into a smooth chutney. 

  10. Transfer the chutney to a bowl. 

  11. Adjust the consistency with a little water if needed.  



For Tempering:  



  1. Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a small pan. 

  2. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. 

  3. Add cumin seeds, dry red chilli, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Fry for a few seconds.

  4. Pour this tempering over the prepared chutney and mix well. 

  5. Serve this delicious Kadale Bele Chutney with idli, dosa, vada, or hot rice.
