SUGARLESS - No Dal Puran Poli | Holige | Obbattu | Sweet Potato Puran Poli

Ingredients for the Dough:  



  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)  

  • A pinch of turmeric  

  • A pinch of salt  

  • ½ cup water  

  • 2 tablespoons oil  



Ingredients for the Filling:



  • 250g sweet potatoes  

  • ¼ cup fresh coconut  

  • 1 cup dates  

  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder  

  • Oil or ghee for cooking  



Method:



  1. In a large bowl, add flour, turmeric, and salt.  

  2. Add water little by little and knead into a soft dough.  

  3. Add 1 tablespoon of oil and mix well.  

  4. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil and knead again until smooth.  

  5. Cover the dough and let it rest for 2 hours.   



Preparing the Filling: 



  1. Blend the dates into a smooth paste.

  2. Boil the sweet potatoes until soft, then let them cool.  

  3. Peel and mash the sweet potatoes.  

  4. Add coconut, blended dates, and cardamom powder to the mashed sweet potatoes.

  5. Mix well, divide into 7–8 equal portions, and roll them into balls.  



Making the Holige:


 

  1. Knead the rested dough and divide it into 7–8 equal portions.  

  2. Take a piece of wax paper, parchment paper, butter paper, or a plastic cover and grease it with a few drops of oil.  

  3. Place a dough ball on the greased surface and flatten it with your fingers.  

  4. Place a portion of the sweet potato filling in the center of the dough.  

  5. Gather the edges of the dough to seal the filling and shape it into a smooth ball.  

  6. Gently flatten it using your fingers.  

  7. Heat a tawa and place the flattened holige on it.  

  8. Roast on medium heat, applying oil or ghee, until golden brown on both sides.

  9. Serve warm.
