Dahi Vada Chaat | Dahi Bhalla | Soft Dahi Vada

Ingredients for Vada:

  • 1 cup Urad Dal (Split black gram)

  • 1 tbsp Moong Dal

  • 1tbsp Yogurt

  • 1-inch Ginger 

  • 1 Green Chilli 

  • 1 tsp Roasted Cumin Powder  

  • 1/2 tsp Chilli Powder

  • Salt to taste

  • 1/2 tsp Soda

  • Oil for Frying


  1. Wash and soak the urad dal for 4 to 5 hours.  

  2. After 5 hours drain the water. 

  3. Grind the dal with ginger, salt and yoghurt.  

  4. Add cumin powder, soda and green chilli. 

  5. Mix or beat the batter until it's light and fluffy.  

  6. Heat oil in a kadhai, drop around 1 tbsp batter in the hot oil and fry them on medium heat until golden brown. 

  7. Soak the fried vadas in hot water for 8 to 10 minutes.  

  8. Squeeze out all the water without breaking the vadas.

Ingredients for Assembling Dahi Vada:

  • 1 kg Beaten Yogurt

  • Salt to taste

  • Mint Chutney   

  • Tamarind Chutney  

  • Roasted Cumin Powder  

  • Chilli Powder 

  • Sev

  • Fresh Coriander


  1. Beat yoghurt with some salt. 

  2. In a serving bowl, place 2 to 3 vadas, and pour around 5 to 6 tbsp of yoghurt. 

  3. Add tamarind chutney, mint chutney, cumin powder, chilli powder, sev, and coriander according to your taste. 

  4. Serve immediately or chilled.
