Instant Appe Breakfast without Yogurt or without Fermented Batter | Paddu | Suji Nashta


  • 1/2 cup semolina / rava / sooji 

  • 1/4 cup rice flour  

  • 1/2 tsp salt or salt to taste 

  • A pinch of baking soda 

  • 11/2 cup water or as required 

  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped 

  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped 

  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped 

  • 2 tsp oil 

  • You can also add grated carrot, grated ginger and chopped curry leaves.     


  1. In a large mixing bowl, add sooji /semolina, rice flour, salt, baking soda, and combine. 

  2. Add 1 cup water, mix well to form a paste without forming any lumps. 

  3. Now add 1/2 cup water and mix well to form a thick batter.  

  4. Rest the batter for 10 minutes or until sooji /semolina absorbs the water. 

  5. After 10 minutes, add in the onion, green chilli, coriander leaves and mix well. 

  6. Heat the appe pan on low heat, apply few drops of oil inside the holes. 

  7. Fill the holes with 1 tbsp of sooji /semolina batter. 

  8. Cover and cook for 2 minutes on medium-low heat or until appe gets cooked slightly. 

  9. Once the appe base turns golden brown, flip it over and cook on low heat until it turns golden brown. 

  10. Serve instant sooji /semolina appe with coconut chutney, tomato chutney or sambar.
