How to Make the Perfect Cup of Authentic Indian Masala Chai at Home

Chai masala is a spice blend used to make chai tea, which is a popular beverage in many parts of the world. It typically includes cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and black pepper. Other spices, such as fennel, nutmeg, or coriander, may also be included depending on the recipe. The spices are usually toasted and ground together to create a fragrant and flavorful mix that is added to black tea and milk to make a tasty and aromatic chai tea.  Chai masala can also be used to add flavour to other beverages and dishes, such as coffee, smoothies, and baked goods.



Ingredients Chai Masala Powder:


  • 3 - 4 inch cinnamon stick

  • 1 tbsp peppercorns

  • 2 tbsp green cardamom

  • 1 tbsp clove

  • 2 tbsp fennel seeds

  • 1 mace piece

  • 2 black cardamoms

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder

  • 2 - 3 tbsp dry ginger powder



Ingredients Chai Tea:



  • 1 cup water

  • 2 tbsp black tea powder

  • 1 1/2 - 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1/4 chai masala powder



Method:



  1. In a pan, dry roast the cinnamon stick, peppercorns, green cardamom, clove, fennel seeds, mace piece, and black cardamoms for a minute on medium-low heat.

  2. Transfer roasted spins to the bender.

  3. Add nutmeg powder and dry ginger powder, and grind to a fine powder.

  4. Next, In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil.

  5. Add the tea bags or loose tea leaves to the boiling water.

  6. Boil for 1-2 minutes or until it turns dark.

  7. Now add sugar and continue to boil for a minute.

  8. Add the milk, boil, reduce heat to low, and let the tea simmer for 3-4 minutes.

  9. Add the chai masala and stir. Simmer for 1 more minutes.

  10. Strain the chai into cups using a tea strainer or fine mesh sieve.

  11. Serve hot, and enjoy!

Note: You can adjust the amount of sugar and spices to your taste.
