Coconut Cookies | Cardamom Coconut Cookies

  • 1 1/4 cup desiccated coconut  

  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds 

  • 120g butter - softened 

  • 1 cup sugar 

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour  

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder 

  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder 

  • 1/4 tsp baking soda  

  • 1-2 tablespoons milk  


  1. Preheat oven to 180 °C. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup desiccated coconut and poppy seeds. 

  2. Keep that aside. 

  3. In a large bowl, add butter and sugar and whisk until smooth and light. 

  4. Next, add all-purpose flour, 1 cup of desiccated coconut, baking powder, cardamom, and baking soda.  

  5. Mix everything well with a spatula. Add 1-2 tablespoons milk if the dough is too dry to shape the cookie. 

  6. Scoop 1-11/2 tablespoons of cookie dough mixture and shape it into a cookie. 

  7. Coat that with a mixture of coconut and poppy seeds. 

  8. Place the cookies on a baking tray. 

  9. Bake in a preheated oven for 18-20 minutes until golden on top.  

  10. Remove the baking tray from the oven, and let the cookies sit on the tray for another 5 minutes.

  11. Later, transfer them to a wire rack to cool down completely. 

  12. Once cooled, serve and store the remaining cookies in an airtight jar.
