Mutton Saaru | Mutton Sambar Recipe | Mutton Curry | Karnataka Style Mutton Sambar

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg mutton/ lamb/ goat

  • 2 large onions

  • 1 large tomato

  • 2 inches of cinnamon

  • 10 cloves

  • 2 inches piece of ginger

  • 12 to 15 garlic cloves

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder

  • 1/4 turmeric powder

  • 3 tbsp of coriander powder

  • 1/2 tbsp of chilli powder

  • 1/2 cup dry coconut powder

  • 1/4 bunch of coriander leaves

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • Water as needed

Method:


  1. Wash and cut the mutton into desired size pieces.

  2. In a blender add in the onions, tomato, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, garlic cloves, pepper, cumin powder, coriander powder, chilli powder, dry coconut powder and fresh coriander leaves.

  3. Add some water and grind to a smooth paste.

  4. In a pan/pot heat the oil and add the mutton. Sauté for a minute.

  5. Add salt and mix well, cover and cook for 15 minutes on low heat.

  6. After 15 minutes, add masala paste and mix.

  7. Cover and cook simmer for 10 minutes on medium-high heat.

  8. Add water and boil, once the curry starts boiling reduce the heat.

  9. Cover and cook for 10 minutes on medium-high heat or until done.


Mutton saaru goes well with Ragi mudde, Rice, Dosa and Idli.

Note: adjust the thickness accordingly.
