Baklava | Eggless | Turkish Dessert
1 cup water
2 cups sugar
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
2 inches cinnamon stick
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
A pinch of salt
3 tbsp melted butter
1/2 cup milk (approx)
1/2 cup walnuts
1/2 cup pistachios
1/2 cup almonds
In a pot, add water, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon stick.
Boil for 8 to 10 minutes and let it cool down completely.
In a large bowl, add all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt and mix.
Now add milk, mix and knead the dough until it stops sticking to the bowl.
Cover & let the dough rest for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, coarsely grind or chop the nuts and keep them aside.
After 15 minutes, knead the dough again and make a tube shape; divide the dough equally.
Roll the dough as thin as possible, brush a good amount of melted butter, and fill the grounded nuts.
Roll that with a thin rolling pin, push and gently slide the baklava.
Once everything is ready, grease the baking tray and place the baklava.
Apply some melted butter on them.
Bake the baklava at 150 C for 30 to 50 minutes.
Poke them using a fork and pour the sugar syrup, garnish with some nuts.
Let them sit in the sugar syrup for 5 to 6 hours.
