Pumpkin Recipe | Sihi Kumbalakai Palya | Pumpkin Stir Fry Recipe


  • 5 cups of chopped pumpkin 

  • 2 tbsp oil 

  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds 

  • 2 tbsp chana dal 

  • 1 tbsp urad dal 

  • 4 - 5 green chillies  

  • Few curry leaves 

  • 1 tbsp grated ginger 

  • 1 cup chopped onion

  • Salt to taste 

  • 1/4 cup water 

  • 1/4 cup grated coconut 

  • Coriander leaves 

  • 2 tsp lemon juice (optional)  


  1. Wash, and chop the pumpkin. Next, heat the oil in a frying pan. 

  2. Add in mustard seeds and let them splutter. 

  3. Now add in the chana dal, urad dal and fry them until golden brown. 

  4. Add in green chillies, curry leaves and sauté. 

  5. Next, add grated ginger and sauté, then add onion and cook for a minute. 

  6. Add in chopped pumpkin, salt and give a quick mix. 

  7. Add water and mix well, cover and cook until soft on low heat. 

  8. Once the pumpkin is cooked add in the coconut, coriander and stir well. 

  9. Serve it with hot steaming rice or chapati.
